William Byrds geistliche Musik legte den Grundstein und auch die hohe Messlatte für die gesamte anglikanische Kirchenmusik. Dennoch blieb der Komponist trotz aller Anfeindungen und Risiken stets seinem katholischen Glauben verbunden - wahre Ökumene also.
